Vellore is well known as a fort city situated 122 kms from Chennai Metropolitan city started growing up during 6th century. Vellore Fort


Fort was built during 14th century by Vijayanagar Empire ruled by Pallava, Chola, Rashtrakutas, Vijayanagar Rulers, Muslim Rulers of Deccan, Sultans of Bijapur and Golconda, French, Mughals and finally the British. This is one of the famous idyllic specimens of military architecture in south India. Fort is now promoted by State Government as a historical tourist destination. This contains temple, church, mosque, court and police training academy inside. Arcot Fort

Muthu Mandapam is well known as "pearl palace". This is built around the gravestone of the memorial last tamil ruler Vikramraja singh. This is situated on the bed of river palar and a few steps to the north of Vellore. This is added with aquarium, Children's park, a lawn and three beautiful arches.

Government Museum


This is situated in Lakshmanaswamy town hall which is a few steps from Vellore bus stand. This museum in under the control of Department of Museum by State Government of Tamil nadu. The entrance fee is free and will kept unlock on all working days from 9.00am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm except on government holidays.
