History of Valluvar kottam

Valluvar kottam was constructed in 1976 to honor the great tamil poet and saint Thiruvalluvar who wrote 1330 thirukural about 2000 years ago. The construction was a replica of a temple in thiruvarur. The temple chariot has a thiruvalluvar statue which has been raised for 39 meters height. Mr.M.Karunanidhi laid a stone and helped with the construction. It was opened by Thiru Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed the former president of India presided by Thiru. K.K. Shah, Governor of Tamilnadu.

The auditorium of Valluvar kottam can accomodate 4000 people at a time. The architect of this south indian asset is the famous and traditional architect Mr. V. Ganapati Sthapati. The memorial stand was created by using over 3,000 blocks of stone. The main entrance is designed with a kural written in the center. The environment is maintained to give a greenish look all around. Kural mandabam is in the first floor. Here we can see the 1330 Thirukural written by our Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar. All the golden words are written on the granite books having two heading with twenty Kurals in each book. We can take the pleasure by seeing all the 1330 kurals at the same place.
