The Greatness of Margazhi Month is also explained in Bhagavad Gita by Lord Krishna. As we all know the Bhagavat Gita is the one of the greatest religious book for the Hindus and in that Lord Krishna says Maasanam Margasheershoham. This means that among all the 12 months present, Lord Krishna is Margazhi. The Margazhi month is such great such that Lord Krishna also compares himself to Margazhi and says that he is the Margazhi month. Rendering Tiruppavai and Thiruvembavai in the Margazhi month

In the month of the margazhi it is also very famous for the Lord Vishnu, the so called Thirumal. In this month only Andal rendered her greatest Bhakthi to Thirumal with the help of Triuppavai. The Thiruppavai consists of 30 verses and one verse is chanted on each day of the Margazhi month. This adds beauty to the month of Margazhi. Every day morning in the Temples the Thiruppavai will be chanted by people together.
