Ambattur

Ambattur is a major municipality in the State of Tamil Nadu. Ambattur is an Industrial Area which is in north-west of Chennai. Ambattur is closer to Padi and Avadi. Ambattur is a fast developing residential location of Chennai. The Area of Ambattur is 45 km2.

Ambattur was under North Chennai parliamentary constituency along with Villivakkam. It was the largest assembly constituency. Ambattur became a township in 1960s. Now it is a municipality which includes Padi, Korattur, Anna Nagar Western Extn. Mogappair and Ambattur Industrial Estate areas.

From October 2011, as per the recent government directive Ambattur is going to come under Chennai Corporation.

Waterbodies in Ambattur

Ambattur Eri and chithu Orgadam Lade and the bigger Puzhal Eri are the main waterbodies of Ambattur. The Ambattur eri is weighed down by problems of dumping of garbage, construction of building this eri suffers due to pollution of sewage water also.

Britannia Industries Limited, TI Cycles of India, Dunlop, TVS have their plants in Ambattur. Satellite earth station of VSNL-Tata communication is at Ambattur-Red hills road. The Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), manufacturers of military tanks is also situated here makes Ambattur an important place. Near Ambattur railway station a railway concrete sleeper manufacturing is also at Ambattur.

Ambattur Industrial Estate

Ambattur Industrial Estate is the biggest small scale industrial estate in South Asia which is spread over in an area of 4.9 km2. The textile industries employ thousands of women such as Ambattur Clothing Limited and Bombay Fashions. The Information Technology companies like HCL Technologies, DELL and Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) and their development centers are also situated here. Ambattur Industrial Estate is transforming itself into an IT hub.

Transportation to Ambattur

Chennai – Thiruvallur Highway passes through Ambattur. Chennai-Kolkata highway is just about 7 km from here. The Chennai-Arakkonam railway line passes through Ambattur. By rail you can reach Ambattur in 30 minutes from Central Station, from Perambur 20 minutes and 10 minutes from Villivakkam.

Bus Transport to Ambattur

Ambattur bus terminus is located to the MTH road and many city buses are connecting Ambattur. Ambattur is the biggest municipality but does not have proper bus terminus. Pudur, is one of the well developed outskirt of Ambattur also does not have a proper bus terminus. Buses coming from Avadi passes through Ambattur. You can avail buses for Tirupathi from Ambattur.

At Kamalapuram colony Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple was opened 2 years back. During every Thursday special poojas are performed. The Venkatachalapathi temple (Chinna Tirupathi) which is located in Lenin Nagar at Ambattur. Other deities' temples you can see at Ambattur are Ayyappan Temple, Sri Bhuvaneswari Amman in Mounaswami Mutt.
