Things to do in Marina Beach in the evenings and week ends

Marina Beach, the world's second largest beach is a great place of entertainment. Of course visiting beach is to take a dip in water or to enjoy the lashing waves. But there are other things too one can do in Marina Beach.

Thengai Maangai Pattani Sundal:
Whenever we think of Marina, the things that come to our mind is the famous Thengai Maangai Pattani Sundal. Not just the aroma but also the sound of the vendors selling it. Eating it out of the paper cones made by the vendors to serve the hot Kabuli Channa spiced with dessicated coconut, mango pieces, curry leaves. The size of the cone have cone down in the course of time. But the vendors are able to maintain the taste.

Another favourite

Bajji Stalls:
Now a days we can see lots of small stalls put up light with petromax lights and serving steaming hot Milagai bajjis. They also serve plantain, potato bajjis too but they are named as milagai bajji stall.

One can also find stalls selling fish fries and other non-veg stalls too. The smell wafts around(if you are not used to non-veg, better be careful) along with the smell of the sea breeze. One can find sea fish and prawns fried or made into soup and served steaming hot.

Though health conscious people dont dare to take a piece of that fish fry or the bajjis due to the reused oil still, it is worth giving a try.

Dont forget to taste the fresh water
On our recent visit to Marina beach we found a man digging up a deep pit in the sand and picking up water from the pit and serving us. It is a spring on the beach and surprisingly the water was not salty. He didnot serve it for free but gave us for Rs. 10 per bottle.

Entertainment for kids in Marina Beach
There are lots of small stalls selling goodies which attract the kids and so are the merry go rounds and the small tora toras. Some of them offer to give a ride even to the adults.

Of course there are lots of Ice Cream shops too. One can also find vendors frying corn or candy maker making a candy.

There are vendors who sell kites and not just kids but also adults purchase and on week ends one can see a load of kites flying all around the Marina skies.

All the whole visiting Marina in the evenings on a week end gives a wholesome entertainment for the whole family apart from playing in the non-stop waves that keep lashing the shores.
