MTC to issue smart cards to passengers

Very soon MTC has plans to introduce smart cards to passengers . This will help to reduce exchange of bitter words between the passengers and the conductor when this proposal to introduce smart cards become a reality

For the first time in the history of transport services, the state owned MTC is exploring the possibility of introducing smart card system in its buses to minimise the cash transactions in the buses between the passengers and conductor. This will reduce the work load of the conductors too.

As per this system, the passengers would be issued smart cards with secified amounts . After boarding the bus they need to hand over the cards to the conductor to be swiped in the ETM and issue a journey ticket to the preferred destinations. Passengers can top up these cards either at the time keepers office or from the conductor as and when required.

The more important things is, the smart card will have a credit facility feature, which enable the passengers travel without paying for a trip in times of emergencies, which can be deducted from the card later while toping up the cards. According to MTC sources, this system will have several long term benefits like coordinating with railways, one can travel in suburban trains using the smart card.
