    A popular legend about Sri Vedapureeswarar temple is that at this place the marriage of Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathi was reperformed for Sage Agasthiyar a devotee of Lord Siva



    A popular legend about the Vedapureeswarar temple is , at Thiruverkadu the marriage of the devine –Lord Siva and Parvathi had been re-performed for sage Agasthiyar. The story is, when the Goddess Sati in her birth as the daughter of Daksha Prajapathi, was married to Lord Siva. When her father Daksha decided to perform a yaga for which he invited all the deities except Lord Siva to humiliate Siva. Knowing this Sati got angry and started from Kailasa to her father’s house. She wanted to know the reason why he had not invited Lord Siva for the yaga. But Daksha was very rude towards Sati and spoke ill of her husband in front of the celebrities. Hearing her fathers words of humiliation, Sati got angry and sacrificed herself in the Yagna fire.

    After this she was borne again as Parvathi, the daughter of Parvatha Raja . When she grown up sage Narada came to Parvatha Raja and advised him to give Parvathi to Lord Siva in marriage. Accordingly all arrangements were made for the marriage. All the deities ,and beings came to see the marriage of the Lord . The earth could not bear the weight of all present and hence it went down. Then Lord Siva asked Sage Agasthyar to go to the South to maintain the balance of the earth. The Sage was disappointed since he is not able to see the divine marriage. Knowing his mind Lord Siva promised him that
