Meaning of the word "Ratha" is chariot and "sapthami" means the 7th day.It is believed that sun will ride on seven horses on the 7th day of the tamil month of Thai. It is advised to take bath with 7 yerkka or calotropis procera leaves by keeping 2 on shoulder, 2 on knees, 2 on foot and one on head while taking bath. The following mantra should be recited while taking bath.
