When we hear about Sri Kanaka Durga temple, our thoughts will go to the famous Kanaka Durga temple at Vijayawada, A.P. But here in our Chennai city, there is a temple of Sri Kanaka Durga at Ist Block, Kalamegham Road, West Mogappair, Chennai -600037.
Main Deity of the Sri Kanakadurga Temple
The temple entrance is facing south with three storeyed Gopuram. The main diety worshipped is Godess Sri Kanaka Durga appearing with ten hands carrying in each hand Conch and Chakram (Bhoga Lakshmi, Japamala and and the Veda manuscript (Yoga Posture), Goad, Nook (Maha KaliKa), Soolam , Kedayam, Abhaya and Varada mudra.

Other deities worshipped in this temple are Sri Maha Ganapathy, Sri Murugar along with Valli and Daivanai, Sri Bhuvaneswari, Mahalakshmi, Sri Saraswathi, Sri Satya Narayana Perumal, Swami Ayyappan, Panja Mukha Anjaneyar and Nava Grahas.
Poojas at the Sri Kanaka Durga Temple
Special Poojas offered to Sri Kana Durga on every full moon day at mid night. Also Goddess Jala Durga is worshipped on full moon day at early morning (Brahma Muhurtham). On every Ashtami thithi soolini homam performed to propetiate goddess Ugra Pratyangira devi.
Every year on the first Saturday of Purattasi month Godess Kanaka Durga is being decorated as Thirupathi Venkatachalapathi. On tuesdays Rahu Durga pooja is performed and on Fridays deom 10-12 Lakshmi Durga pooja will be conducted.
