Breathing exercises help to relax headaches and also help in relieving other stress related disorders like backaches and insomnia.

Basically, deep breathing gives a rhythm and concentration to the mind and provides "rich air" breathe towards the lungs and also ensures higher supply of Oxygen in relation to Demand of Oxygen by the body.

Yoga gives the faculty of breathe exercises and suggest to hum silently by the sound of a bee or by uttering "Aum" till the breath is exhaled completely.

This exercise provides a constant vibratory feeling to the mind and helps in reducing frequent attacks of headache too.

    Regards

It is really true. I suffer from headaches often and breathing heavily and deeply will reduce the pain to an extend. Actually, I am having less attacks of this headache nowadays as I am taking regular walks now.
