    Hi Meenatchi,

Sankadahar Chathurthi or Shankata Shashti is a monthly fasting offered to Lord Ganesha.

This Vradh is obsered on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha. It is highly auspicious for Lord Ganesha devotees.

Sankashta chathurthi begins at sunrise and ends after evening puja. Even in Maharashtra people observe fast on this day.

It is believed that observing this vradh brings properity, happiness and all our desires will be fulfilled. Lord Krishna explained the greatness of this pooja to Yudhishtir.

Hope I gave the details you required.

    regards

HI Meenachi, Sankadaharana chathurthi is the fourth day after Amavasya. In the month of Avani, we celebrate it as Vinayaka chathurthi. Similarly the chathurthi (4th day) after amavasya every month is observed as Sankataharana chathurthi. Specail poojas and abhishekam performed to Lord Vinayaka on that day. Just like we offer special pooja to Lord Vinayaka on Vinayaka chathurthi day on sankataharana chathurthi day we do pooja to the Lord . The belief is that if we worship Lord Vinayaka on sankatachathurthi day he will protect us from all our difficulties and remove all obstacles on our way to prosperity . In Sanskrit Sankat means sorrow/difficulty and haran means to do away with or remove the obstacles .
